Black Lives Matter: Empathy

Race doesn’t matter? Oh please, yeah right…
See the blood splatter. Turn on a light.
Closed eyes in darkness are spreading a blight.
Holster, and harness some love in your sight.

Share this privilege. It’s a blank slate,
We’ll build a bridge surrounded by hate.
Maybe improbable, it’s not too late.
It’s not unstoppable, this isn’t our fate.

These are our people, these are our brothers.
They aren’t evil, but we see them get smothered.
Ignorance runs deep in the veins of others,
their sons, their daughters, their fathers, their mothers.

Piles of coffins for innocent peers.
Can we soften the whip-crackers’ ears?
We must stop the nonsense we hear.
These pistols pop and silence our fears.

Your brothers are falling, people are dying.
Cops are shooting, authorities lying.
I feel helpless, and now I’m crying.
Voiceless utters. Whispers. Sighing.

I feel helpless, and now I’m crying.

Regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender:
Can you defend him? Can you defend her?
The policeman’s job’s to protect and serve.
And we’ve seen what “they observe.”

Regardless of skin, all blood is red,
though the color might leave you dead.
The moment of fear, the moment you fled.
Your last scream: a moment of dread.

One fateful evening, I ran away.
The officer grabbed me with nothing to say.
I was scared, and certainly phased.
Shortly tackled, and twice I was tased.

I was unarmed, and hadn’t fought.
Only beaten as opposed to shot.
I gained a scar on the crown of my head,
It’s lucky I’m white. Might I be dead?

Your brothers are falling, people are dying.
Cops are shooting, authorities lying.
I feel helpless, and now I’m crying.
Voiceless utters. Whispers. Sighing.

Voiceless utters. Whispers. Sighing.

This was my first music video
